In a world full of distractions and competition, the scarcest and most valuable resource is human attention. But before you can attract attention, you need visibility.

Maverick excels not only in securing you the visibility on Earned, Shared, or Owned media but also in attracting attention from the right stakeholders.

We have been continuously learning, innovating and delivering tangible outcomes to communication-savvy clients to build their brands or manage their reputations since 2002. We have also embedded generative engine optimization (GEO) techniques in our strategies to secure the visibility and attention of our clients’ stakeholders in a communication landscape increasingly driven by AI Search.

Brief History of Maverick

Maverick was established in 2002. Since then, it has grown to become one of the most respected PR consultancies in Indonesia.

It was set up by Ong Hock Chuan and Lita Soenardi, who met and worked together when they were in Ogilvy PR Indonesia, then known as Indo-Ad.

Maverick started with six employees but eventually grew to about 75 employees before the pandemic. Since then, the staff size has hovered around 50.

The firm was operationally profitable from the start as it had Citibank as a retainer client from its first day of operations. About six months later, Maverick generated enough income to cover all its investments because of its work in crisis management for an international client in a high-profile court case.

That cemented Maverick’s reputation for crisis management and it is today acknowledged as an industry leader. Maverick also deepened its corporate training business and today offers a suite of communication skills training in crisis management, interpersonal communications, executive presence, media handling, and social media use.

In 2017, Maverick began its measurement journey using AMEC (Association for Measurement and Evaluations of Communication) frameworks when our Head of Analytics and Insights became the first Indonesian to be certified by AMEC in the use of its frameworks.

This journey was to include Maverick being shortlisted or winning several awards at the annual AMEC awards including a gold award in 2021 for Best First Steps in a Measurement Journey, as well as Maverick organizing the first AMEC regional summit in Jakarta that attracted 300 communications professionals and academicians..

These activities consolidated Maverick’s position as the leading thought leader in measurement and evaluation in Indonesia and the region.

We have already begun monetizing this expertise into coaching sessions where we helped companies embark on their measurement journey and use the Integrated Evaluation Framework for their communication strategies and planning.

Over the years Maverick has won many awards for creative and work excellence, among them: ASEAN PR Network’s Best PR Agency of the Year Award in 2019, PRCA’s Digital and Social Media Award 2022, and PR Week’s Top 4 Best Employee Support in 2022.

In 2023, Maverick invited five senior consultants to become members of the Management team and today they handle most of the operations and client servicing tasks. They are part of Maverick’s leadership succession plan as Lita will be retiring in 2025 whereas Ong plans to be still at Maverick for the next five years.

In 2025, seeing the profound inevitable and profound changes that AI would bring to communications, Maverick launched Indonesia’s first Generative Engine Services, called MavGEO. This service helps clients find out what their visibility is in LLM search results.

It also helps clients integrate their communications with AI as a new and major stakeholder. Maverick has also embarked on embedding AI into its work processes in an ethical and transparent manner.

Maverick has stood out since its founding because of the calibre of its strategic thinking in planning communications programs for our clients. We do not stop there though. Unlike many consultancies we can also take ownership of the implementation of the programs.
